Carried by the Aedes mosquito, Dengue fever is a viral infection, which can be caused by any one of the four related dengue viruses. Due to the severe pain felt in the muscles and bones, dengue is often referred to as Break-bone fever. Especially in South-East Asia, India, China, Africa and Central America, Dengue fever affects people all over the globe.

DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, or DEN-4 – Dengue fever is caused by one of these four viruses. If once infected, we cannot get affected by the single type of virus again, though, if not all four, we can get affected by at least two viruses at the same time.
Transmission of the Virus – Dengue Fever Explanation
Dengue virus infection can not spread from person to person, its transmission takes place through an Aedes mosquito. When an Aedes mosquito bites an infected person and then bites someone else, the transmission of the dengue virus takes place.

The symptoms vary from person to person depending upon their age, though generally after being bitten by an infected mosquito, a high fever is observed within 4-7 days. Given below are the general symptoms of classic dengue :
• High Fever (up to 105 °F)
• Nausea, Vomiting, and Diarrhoea
• Severe joint and muscle ache
• Pain behind eyes
• Sometimes, In the case of mild disease, none of these symptoms may be shown by the patient.
Generally, If the infected person is a child, he/she may have a fever with rashes, and all other symptoms may be minor. But, these symptoms could have been also caused by other issues, therefore, we should consult your healthcare provider at the earliest, if we had been to a place that had been affected by dengue.
Sometimes potentially fatal illnesses may also be developed by Dengue fever and should never be neglected. Other than classic dengue symptoms, Dengue Haemorrhagic fever’s symptoms may include bleeding of the nose, gums, or under the skin, caused by damaged blood vessels.

Prevention is better than cure. We should take active steps to avoid mosquito bites to avoid being affected by dengue in the first place. Wearing light-coloured clothes which are loose and cover as much part of the body as possible, is highly recommended. Factually, Aedes mosquitoes bite during the daytime before it gets dark, we must show extra care during that period. Given below are some other preventive measures to avoid Dengue Fever :
• Avoid water stagnation in our area
• We must use insect repellents
• Wear clothes that cover the maximum parts of the body
• Shut our windows to prevent the entering of mosquitoes
• Stay indoors, when possible.
