Overview – X-ray Explained
Diagnostic tests are a means to rule out or confirm conditions and diseases through different medical processes. An X-ray is a type of non-invasive diagnostic test, which is quick and painless. It produces images of the structures of our body – bones in particular.
How does X-ray works? – X-ray Explained
When passed through our body, X-ray beams are absorbed differently depending on the density of the material they pass through. The air in our lungs shows up as black, muscles and fat appear as shades of grey, and dense materials, such as bones and metal, are shown up as white on X-rays. To get greater details on the X-ray images, some types of X-ray tests, a contrast medium, such as barium or iodine, is injected into our body.
Why is an X-ray done? -X-ray Explained
Examining many parts of the body using X-ray technology. Given below are some of the body parts and the use of X-ray in examining them :
Arthritis
Evidence of Arthritis can be revealed by the X-rays of joints. A doctor takes the help of X-rays taken over the years to ascertain whether our arthritis is getting worse or not.
Osteoporosis
Bone density can be measured by special types of X-ray tests.
Bone cancer
Bone tumors can be revealed by X-ray tests.
Abdomen:
Digestive tract problems.
To reveal problems in our digestive system via an X-ray, Barium, a contrast material is delivered in a drink or an enema.
Swallowed items.
In case any metal, such as a key or coin (generally happens only in cases of children) is swallowed, the location of the object can be shown in the X-ray.
Chest :
Lung infections or conditions
Chest X-rays can show up evidence of tuberculosis, pneumonia, or king cancer.
Breast cancer.
A special type of X-ray test is used to examine breast tissue. The X-ray is known as mammography.
Enlarged heart.
X-rays can clearly show this sign of congestive heart failure.
Blocked blood vessels.
Sections of our circulatory system can be highlighted to make them visible on X-ray by injecting a contrast material containing Iodine.
